Nigeria’s ex-dictator General Muhammadu Buhari has millions of cult-like followers and they are not worried about him. But I am. With five weeks to go before the presidential election, GMB is in London. There has been many opinions on why he is in London:
1.He is receiving medical attention (alleges his opponents)
2.He is resting (his wife is quoted as saying)
3.He is on a working vacation (some London Newspapers reported)
4.He is there to give a public lecture at the Chatham House on Thursday February 26, 2015 (Chatham House has confirmed this)
Whatever the actual reason turns out to be, it is worrisome. The only official explanation is the designated speech at Chatham House on Thursday. But even this raises more question than it answers.
Why would a presidential candidate in a very close election take almost two weeks off to go prepare for a lecture in a foreign country? Is his speech being prepared for him by his hosts? Why can he not write it in Nigeria?
Or is he getting a rest as his wife is quoted as saying? If so how good is his health? He has a comfortable (not lavish) country home where he has lived for the past few decades. Is his bed not the most comfortable for him?
Why a vacation before the work is done?
Will he take another one after the election?
Inquiring minds want to know.
