Wife Wins $1M on Scratch-Off while Trying to Teach Husband a Lesson for Gambling

Glenda Blackwell was trying to teach her husband a lesson about gambling too much. Instead, she ended up hitting a $1-million-dollar jackpot.

“I had to eat my words, but they were worth eating,” Blackwell, 57, laughed as she told ABC affiliate WLOS-TV in Asheville North Carolina. “So, I was very happy.”

On Oct. 22, Blackwell’s husband, Buddy, sent her to buy two Powerball tickets from Suttles Quik Mart in Asheville, according to WLOS.

Blackwell instead bought a $10 Carolina Millions scratch-off ticket for herself.

“I was going to be ugly and buy a scratch off to show him they didn’t hit,” Blackwell said. “Sometimes I get aggravated with him, so I tell him, ‘You’re just wasting your money.'”

Blackwell’s trick ended up backfiring when she scratched her way to a $1-million-dollar prize.

She and her husband chose the lump sum of $415,503 after taxes.

The couple plans on purchasing a new home and helping to put their granddaughters through college.

“We’ve struggled a lot, so now we can buy our own home and our own land,” Blackwell said. “It’ll be paid for and I don’t have to worry about that.”
