US impeachment Managers conclude opening arguments to convict trump at Senate trial

The United States House of Representatives Managers led by Rep. Jamie Raskin in the second impeachment of former president, Donald Trump began their opening oral arguments for their case at the Senate chamber on Wednesday.

House impeachment managers concluded their case against Donald Trump on Thursday, urging the Senate to convict the former President for inciting the insurrectionists that attacked the US Capitol, arguing he was responsible for the deadly riots on January 6 and showed no remorse afterward.

They used their final day of arguments in the Senate impeachment trial to show how the insurrectionists who carried out the attack on the Capitol last month said they did at Trump’s direction. The managers focused on Trump’s history of celebrating violence among his supporters leading up to the attack and his lack of remorse afterward.

One of the managers, congressman Joseph (Joe) Neguse tried to show the US Senators, especially the Republican Senators that they (the Managers) have been able to prove through the opening arguments the nexus between Trump and the rioters who attacked US Capitol on January 6 that Trump sent them to do the attack.

He said the House Managers have been able to do that by showing to the Senators, Trumps’ statements, tweets, video clips before and after January 6, 2021, statements by Republican governors, lawmakers and former senior Trump officials and so on, sequel to the January 6 attack.

Trump’s defence team will get its chance to respond to the House’s case on Friday. Trump’s lawyers are expected to finish their arguments in one day and they plan to argue that Democrats glorified violence in their presentation, the trial is unconstitutional and Trump’s speech is protected by the First Amendment.

Trump lawyers Schoen, Castor, Michael van der Veen and William Brennan are all expected to speak. Because the legal team is so disorganized as a result of the closeness of time they were engaged and the trial, Trump’s allies are apprehensive about how the defense may go. (Photo: CNN)
