Under the Igbo customary law, payment of bride price is what validates paternity, not even DNA ―Nigerian lawyer

Legal Relationship

Stanley Alieke, Esq.

Nigerian lawyer, Stan Alieke, has said that under the Igbo customary law, it is the bride price that validates the paternity of a child and not even the result from a DNA test.

In a post he shared on his Instastories, and X handle, Alieke further stated that if a man is yet to pay the bride price on the mother of his child, the child will be presumed a bastard or fatherless.

Alieke also stated that the father of a child will not be allowed to take the child until he pays the bride price of the mom even if the woman is dead.
