Operatives from Benue State Police Command have arrested two suspects in connection with the rape and murder of a 24-year-old Joy Onoh in Makurdi, the state capital.
Onoh, a graduate of the Benue State University, Makurdi, was awaiting a call-up letter from the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC) before her tragic death.
The deceased who markets clothes online was allegedly raped and murdered by the assailants who posed as customers and lured her to their house.
Her corpse was recovered in a bush around the Federal Low Cost Estate, North Bank, a suburb of Makurdi last Wednesday.
According to Punch the two suspects were arrested at a house close to where the remains of the deceased was found.
One of the sources said the suspects were arrested through the help of neighbours who gave information about their activities on the day Joy was killed.
“One other thing that gave them out was the foot steps of people that were traced to the house, you know it rained in the early hours of the day the corpse of the lady was found.” the source said.
It was reliably gathered that the two suspects were currently being quizzed by the police.
The Special Assistant to the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom on Media, Agile-Bem Jabez Ordedoo, also confirmed the arrest of the suspects.
“The North Bank Rape and Kill. The two boys have been arrested,” he wrote.
“My friend who live in north bank called me at early hours on that faithful day to inform me that the dead body of a lady was found close to his house
The police got involved and through the help of neighbors, someone was quickly suspected. When police arrived, indeed it rained that night so it was easy to spot many footprints on the door step of the suspect as though a group of persons fought the previous night
The suspect could not return the whole day until next day morning where the police picked him up searched his room and found 11 sim cards, in his statement, he denied committing the crime
“A track was placed on the line of the murdered lady and a second person ( the guy in this picture below was found as the one who called the lady to bring the goods to northbank) during interrogation the two accepted to have committed the crime. They are all in police custody at the moment.
“Watch word. Know your neighbour.”
