
Twin brothers from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DEEE), Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan (UI), have made history by graduating with identical first-class degrees, each with a CGPA of 3.94 out of 4.00.
Consistent superlative performance earned the brothers, Busoye Opegbemi Matthias and Busoye Tolulope Matthew, the title of Overall Best Graduating Students for the 2023/2024 academic session in both their department and the Faculty of Technology.
The brothers maintained the outstanding academic record throughout their studies, showing consistent performance from their 100 to 500 levels. Despite slight fluctuations, they both graduated with the same CGPA.
Breakdown of their academic progression reflects this consistency. At 100 level, Matthias and Matthew recorded CGPAs of 3.84 and 3.89 respectively; at 200 level, 3.92 and 3.94; at 300 level, 3.95 and 3.93; at 400 level, 3.94 and 3.93 again; and in their final year, both concluded with a CGPA of 3.94.
One of the twins, Matthias, announced the achievement in a post on X on Wednesday.
The Society of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students (SEEEES-UI) formally celebrated the brothers in a congratulatory message that highlighted their academic excellence and leadership contributions.
Matthias served as Honourable Speaker of the UI Students’ Representative Council (UISU-SRC, 11th Assembly), while Matthew was the President of SEEEES-UI for the 2023/2024 session.
