Three kidnappers sentenced to 71 years imprisonment each in Nigeria

Three men who kidnapped a house wife and her one-year-old son at Yolde Pate in Yola South Local Government Area, Adamawa State have been convicted and sentenced to a total of 71 years imprisonment each.

The convicts; Layi Musa, Buba Siddiki and Shanu Kori, will however serve 50 years each behind bars without option of fine.

Musa and two other convicts were found guilty and convicted to 20 years for conspiracy, one year for house breaking and 50 years for kidnapping, all to run concurrently.

The convicts were earlier arraigned before Justice Nathan Musa-led High Court 1 on 14th January, 2021 over alleged criminal conspiracy, kidnapping and house breaking at Yolde Pate in Yola South LGA.

Three of the convicts admitted committing the offence as charged, one of the suspects, Buba Mohammed, who is currently standing trial as 3rd defendant, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The convicts were arraigned on four counts bordering on conspiracy to commit kidnapping contrary to and punishable under section 249 (1) of the Adamawa State Administration of Criminal Justice Law.

According to particulars of offence, the four convicts and three others now at large had conspired to commit kidnapping, and that they stormed the house of Aliyu Suleiman at Yolde Pate on 6th July, 2021 and kidnapped his wife, Aishatu Suleiman with her one-year-old son.

It added that the kidnappers had taken the woman and her little child to Chambaji hills where they were kept for two days until the sum of N1.10m ransom was paid to them before releasing them.

In his judgement, Justice Nathan Musa convicted and sentenced them as charged on their own admission.
