The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed four policemen over the theft of domestic appliances and attire belonging to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
A statement by the FCT police spokesman, Anjuguri Manzah confirmed that the cops had stolen six television sets, fridges, air-conditioners, Ijaw attires and designer suits from Jonathan’s former residence in Gwarimpa, which they sold to traders at the Pankera second-hand market in Abuja.
The officers, Sgts. Musa Musa, John Nanpak, Ogah Audu and Gabriel Ugah were subsequently dismissed after they were found culpable in an orderly room trial.
“In fulfillment of the promise by the FCT Police Command to make public its findings on the investigation of the case of theft at the Gwarimpa residence of former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, the command wishes to state that in line with first schedule of Police Act and regulation 370 Cap 19, the policemen guarding the house have been tried in an orderly room proceeding and found culpable of the offence.
“Sequel to the outcome of the orderly room proceeding, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo has approved the immediate dismissal of the policemen from the Nigeria Police Force.”
Mr Jonathan had earlier in the week, confirmed the theft of his property from the house.
According to him, the house which he bought from CITEC estate developers in 2004, was totally stripped bare last month by the thieves who stole every movable item.
While some other media reports stated that over 36 Plasma television sets and 25 refrigerators were moved out of the apartment, the former president denied the claims, stating that the number of items stolen was less than that. (Channelstv)
This same Brother Jonah said ” stealing was not corruption” abi? So if what Brother Jonah said was okay then why arresting and dismissing these men following what a PRESIDENT SAID OPENLY??
