According to reports, the dominant operator, MTN Nigeria, has officially acquired Visafone, the only Coded Multiple Division Access (CMDA), network in the country.
A Daily Sun report Thursday morning, the acquisition but the deal was actually finalised earlier yesterday.
It quoted an unnamed top source at MTN as confirming the development and as saying that there may be mass sack of Visafone staff at the end of the day.
“All efforts to reach the Corporate Communications Head, Joseph Usiagle proved abortive,” the report said.
Visafone was founded by renowned banker and ICT philanthropist, Jim Ovia and was the only visible player in the sub-sector after the onslaught of GSM virtually sounded the death knell of other leading CDMA operators such as Multi-Links and Starcoms.
