Serena and Venus Williams will meet for the 27th time in the US Open quarterfinals on Tuesday and this is official.
Venus easily dispatched Anett Kontaveit 6-2, 6-1 this afternoon to reach the quarterfinals, while Serena defeated fellow American Madison Keys 6-3, 6-3 to set up a collision with her older sister.
The Williams sisters last met earlier this summer at Wimbledon, where Serena defeated Venus 6-4, 6-3 in the fourth round.
If Serena prevails over Venus on Tuesday, she’ll be just three matches from completing her first calendar Grand Slam and equaling Steffi Graf’s Open era record of 22 Grand Slam titles.
Given Venus’ battle with Sjögren’s syndrome, we’re happy to see her playing well, but we want to see Serena achieve history.
Either way, congratulations to both Serena and Venus for making it to the US Open quarterfinals.
