Tanzanian female rapper, Rosa Ree has been slapped with a six-month ban over an explicit music video she shot with her Kenyan boyfriend, singer Timmy Tdat.
The Tanzania Music Regulatory Board, known as Baraza la Sanaa la Taifa (BASATA) said that the music video for her song ‘Vitamin U’ which she did with her man, went against rules and regulations of the board as it was too ‘raunchy and immoral.’
The board banned her from releasing any new music and performing in and out of Tanzania until the ban period is over. The rapper was also forced to apologize publicly and ordered to pay a fine of Tsh2 million for failing to notify the body of her work with her lover, Tdat.
Confirming the ban, BASATA’s acting Secretary-general Onesmo Kayanda said: ‘We summoned Rosa Ree and granted her a hearing. The board found her with two mistakes other than sharing explicit content online. One, she never brought the project to Basata for review and two she did not enter into a contract with the international artiste she collaborated with as per the law,”
In her apology, Rosa Ree said in a video: ‘I would like to apologize to everyone who was offended by the video that has been doing rounds on social media. Today, I had a meeting with Tanzania Films Board and they have enlightened me on a number of rules and regulations that I was not aware of. Moving forward we will work together on matters art in Tanzania.’
