Southwest Governors, Obas, Groups, Other Stakeholders Hold Security Summit In Ibadan (Photos)

Nigeria’s Southwest governors and other stakeholders in the zone, today held an emergency security summit at the Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, Opposite UCH, Queen Elizabeth Road, Ibadan, Oyo State, to discuss the way-out of the security challenges in the zone.

The Southwest Security Summit which was midwifed by the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN), had all the Governors of the six states in the South West in attendance.

This summit was organised following the ugly trend of insecurity in the Southwest region of the country. The host Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State gave the opening remark while Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu declared the summit open.

Addressing attendees at the summit, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who is the chairman of the Southwest governors forum stated that the need for the summit is as a result of the commitment of the southwest governors forum towards ensuring that there is an abrupt end to the security challenges that is making the region unsafe for its people.

Akeredolu explained that the people of the southwest region are peace-loving and the various insecurity incidents being recorded in the region are done by unscrupulous elements. The Yoruba people he said are unique, and the southwest governors are united to ensure that every state must locate the sources of threat with a view to curtail security issues at the short and long run.

Governors present at the summit were: Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state, Dr.John Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state, His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state, Dr. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state, His Excellency Gboyega Oyetola of Osun state and Engr. Seyi Makinde of Oyo state.

The Governor thanked every stakeholder present at the event which was held at the Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, Opposite UCH, Queen Elizabeth Road. Ibadan.

He urged them to uphold the culture of the Yoruba land of peace, love and unity. And promised that security issues will be taken seriously under his watch as the chairman of the south west governor’s forum.
