Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye is dead. Early report has it that the Afenifere chieftain died at the age of 88.
Durojaiye, a leader of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State died on Monday in Lagos due to complications of COVID-19.
He worked for 35 years in the Nigerian public sector, including 28 years as a Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the National Mint.
Durojaiye who was a leading member of the pro-democracy group, NADECO, was arrested in December 1996 by the military regime of General Sani Abacha, and was imprisoned for 560 days and mistreated while in jail.
He was an elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999-2003) under the Alliance for Democracy platform. After taking his seat in the Senate he was appointed to committees on Judiciary, Establishment (Chairman) and Special Projects.
Other Afenifere chieftains, especially Chief Fasoranti and Ayo Adebanjo will seriously miss him.
