Nigeria’s Second Republic Senator, Chief Ayo Fasanmi, leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group ‘Afenifere’ is dead. He died at the age of 94.
The Afenifere leader died in Osogbo in the late hours of Wednesday July 29, after a brief illness. The second republic senator’s son, Afolabi, who confirmed his death wrote in a statement released on Thursday July 30:
“With gratitude to the Almighty God for a life well spent, we wish to announce the demise of our father, Senator Ayo Fasanmi, at the ripe age of 94 years.”
Chief Ayo Fasanmi was born in 1925 at Iye Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria.
He attended St Paul’s primary school, Ebutte Metta, Lagos and Government School, Ibadan before he proceeded to the Pharmacy School of Yaba where he received a diploma certificate in pharmacy.
