Renowned labour leader, activist and former governorship candidate in Lagos state, Nigeria, comrade Ayodele Akele, has died.

A close associate of the former Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Lagos State chapter, confirmed to newsmen that Akele died on Tuesday morning after succumbing to an undisclosed illness.

The late Akele was a former Secretary-General of the National Conscience Party founded by late legal luminary, Gani Fawehinmi.

As the workers’ union leader, Comrade Ayodele Akele was dismissed from the Lagos State civil service in 1998 during the regime of Lagos State military administrator, Col. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd).

Many times, the late comrade Akele debated with other governorship candidates in Lagos state including former governor Babatunde Fasola in his quest to govern Lagos state.
