Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has condemned the alleged physical attack on the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese, Anthony Obinna, by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The cleric was said to have been attacked by loyalists of Governor Rochas Okorocha’s son in-law, Uche Nwosu.
The Peoples Democratic Party in Imo state, has yesterday, asked the people of the state to be at alert.
A press statement by the Publicity Secretary of PDP, Damian Opara, described the APC action as satanic.
It reads: “The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Imo State Chapter, has been drawn to the unwarranted and satanic assault on His Grace, Archbishop Anthony J. V. Obinna, the Archbishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese, by officials of the All Progressives Congress, APC, government of Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State.”
The Imo PDP, said the attack on the Catholic Bishop is “one aggression too many. It has become the hallmark of the APC government and its officials in Imo State to always mete out physical assault on perceived critics of the party and the government.
“They are undoubtedly averse to criticism even when it is clear that they have grossly mis-managed the state and her resources, and foisted untold hardship on the people.
“To have attacked a highly revered cleric like Archbishop AJV Obinna under the supervision and in full glare of Governor Okorocha’s wife and his Chief of Staff is a pointer to what Imo people should expect in the days ahead as 2019 general elections draw nearer.”
