The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Uche Secondus, has said that the results from the Ekiti governorship election which the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged as the winner cannot stand.
He asked Nigerians who believe in democracy and rule of law not to be deterred by the “obvious vote robbery” because it would stand the test of the Almighty.
The APC candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi was declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, after he outpolled the Deputy governor of the state, Professor Kolapo Olusola of the PDP, and others in the race to succeed Governor Ayodele Fayose.
He won in 11 out of the 16 Local Government Areas of the state, polling 197,459 votes, and edging out his closest rival Olusola who got 178,121 votes by 19,338 votes.
But the declaration however by INEC did not go down well with the party chairman.
He noted that justice has the stamina to go all the way to the destination while injustice cannot as it terminates midway to the race, “what we need is patience”.
In a statement his Media Adviser, Ike Abonyi, Secondus thanked Nigerians particularly those who stood by the party during the struggle for Ekiti and assured them that Justice surely will prevail.
According to him, PDP knew from inception that rescuing Nigeria from anti-democratic forces is not going to be an easy thing but has remained emboldened by the fact that Nigerians are resolved to stop the circle of bad governance, violence, and bloodletting in our land today.
“What I want to assure Nigerians and other lovers of democracy and rule of law is that PDP and its partners are undaunted and will not look back until this country is rescued from the hands of bad rulers”
“I want to thank in particular the new coalition for the rescue of Nigeria, the CUPP for their support and determination to free Nigeria from the hands of APC misrule.
“The signs are there both in the spirit and physical world that God has decided to rescue Nigeria and the journey has since begun, what we need is patience and steadfastness”
He charged all in the rescue team to note that saving our democracy and rescuing Nigeria is not going to be an easy journey but noted that what is clear is that those on the side of the people laugh last and indeed they laugh best”
He called on all PDP supporters across the county especially in Ekiti state to eschew violence which PDP is never associated with and wait for the rule of law which he says will prevail.
