Paucity of fund won’t let me pay all allowances, Fayose tells Ekiti workers

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has told workers in the state that his government cannot pay all their allowances, noting that his predecessor left a huge N7.7billion as arrears and allowances of workers.

At an interactive meeting with the workers in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, Fayose said the state is currently insolvent due to the debt he inherited from his predecessor.

“This is not an attempt to malign anybody but we have to state the facts as they are. We have tried to borrow money from banks, but they refused because we have not paid the one that was borrowed by the last administration. So, we can’t pay all allowances now,” he said.

Fayose, however, said his government would continue to place high premium on the welfare of workers, in spite of the tight financial situation of the State.

The governor also said that civil servants should, by their operation, always support government of the day, saying any of them found playing partisan politics would be sanctioned.

He stated that workers are free to vote for the candidates of their choice, and he would not be a party to forcing any worker to vote for his candidate in the forth coming elections. (Vanguard).
