A meeting between Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and the governors of the Southwest states over the recently established security outfit, Operation Amotekun has begun at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami SAN, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Adamu, are also attending the meeting, according to reports.

After it was officially launched in Ibadan on 9th January, Operation Amotekun had generated controversies.

Nigerian Government had opposed it and declared it illegal in a statement released through the office of AGF, Malami SAN.

The government had said it had a policy on community policing, which had been approved by the President, Muhammadu Buhari, as against the regional Amotekun format.

However, the governors have been insisting that they would not dump Amotekun and sought rather to meet with the Presidency in the hope that the differences would be ironed out.
