Nigeria’s acting president, Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday evening, had a closed door meeting with Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima, Minister of Defence Masur Dan-Ali and all the service chiefs at his office in the presidential villa Abuja. The Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Gabriel Abayomi Olonishakin, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Tukur Buratai and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar, Chief of Staff to President Buhari, Abba Kyari; and the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno were all in attendance.
Governor Kashim who spoke to state house correspondents said the meeting was to discuss how the North East can be rebuilt after many years of attacks from insurgents.
“It was an exploratory discussion and once it comes on stream, you would be informed. The meeting was about restoring the dignity of our people about rebuilding lives, infrastructure, schools, and clinic. I do not have the mandate to state how much is being committed to the project, it is still in the exploratory case and it is not for me to pass judgment on how much is going to be committed. But it is a partnership that would certainly work.” he said.
