The 72-year-old Ghanaian opposition leader and presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has reportedly won Ghana’s Presidential election.
Results from media outlets show that Nana Addo defeated incumbent President, John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in parliamentary elections that also took place throughout Ghana on Wednesday, December 7, 2016.
Nana Addo rode to victory on a populist promise of change and allegations of corruption against Mahama’s administration. Ghana’s electoral body has not officially declared the results, with some Ghanaians accusing the body of deliberately stalling.
