Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, will seek medical attention in India, multiple sources at the Imo State Government House, Owerri, told News Express over the weekend.
News Express had on Saturday night reported worries over Governor Okorocha’s mental state after he reportedly acted strange in his expansive office on Friday. His Spokesman Sam Onwuemeodo failed to clear the air when contacted by News Express.
The reports had it that Governor Okorocha at some point on Friday started running round his office, screaming repeatedly, “Who brought this woman here?” when there was obviously no woman in the his office.
“Take this woman out of my office! Who brought her here? What is this woman doing in my office?” Okorocha reportedly screamed, according to a source close to his office.
The source quoted one of the aides attached to the Governor as telling him, “Your Excellency, there is no woman here. I cannot find any woman here.”
Various Government House sources later told News Express that Okorocha had accepted to proceed to India for medical attention. “He travelled out on Saturday night,” one of the sources said. News Express was unable to confirm the information as at the time of publication.
Governor Okorocha has been in the eye of the storm for several months. He is currently being battled by organised labour and by Owerri indigenes. While he provoked workers by cutting office days to three per week and decreeing that Thursday and Friday should be spent on the farm, he has, at the same time, been accused by Owerri indigenes of being desperate to erase their cultural heritage – a situation which they have vowed to fight with the last drop of their blood.
