Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, said none of his 36 ministers is corrupt and challenged anyone who has a contrary view to present evidence against such a minister.
Speaking in his first media chat since becoming president, Buhari said: “I don’t think I tolerate corruption, I don’t think I picked anybody that I know will embarrass my government. But if you have any evidence about any of my ministers, I accept responsibility for the 36 ministers that I have.
Asked if he would sack any of the ministers if he or she is charged to court for corruption, he said: “No, I will insist that the case go through the courts.”
On the panel that interviewed the president yesterday were Kayode Akintemi, Channels TV; Dr. Ngozi Anyaegbulam, Media World International; Munir Dan Ali, Daily Trust and Ibanga Isine, Premium Times.
Why not give this New President a chance to prove his worth? We have tied Goodluck and we see what happened. Stop wishing the new President bad Luck otherwise that bad Luck will affect the while Nigerians. Idusuyi
What am I reading? Buhari will insist that alleged corruption cases against any of his 36 ministers, if existing, should go to court of competent jurisdiction. He however falls short of saying if he will accept the court ruling if it should turn out to confirm the allegations.
On the other hand, if he knows to that extent, why then all the noise from him and his Crusaders about alleged corrupt practices of his predecessor, even when in most cases no legal charges has been filed to court of competent Jurisdiction, but, on pages of the Newspaper? The ones that are in Court are still pending, and in most cases where Judgement has been delivered new charges are brought up to reject the court ruling.
Reading between the lines it seems to me that Buhari believes in the rule of law but only when the outcome favors his position.
