NLC, TUC announce indefinite strike starting October 3

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have announced plans to commence an indefinite Nigerian workers strike from October 3.

This decision follows a joint press briefing held by the union leaders in Abuja, Nigeria. They have also called on their state chapters to organize protests nationwide.

Joint action by the unions is coming after both labour units resolved their differences, with the NLC previously conducting a two-day warning strike without TUC’s participation.

The industrial action is a response to the government’s failure to address socioeconomic hardships caused by the removal of the fuel subsidy.

Nigeria’s Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr. Simon Lalong, has appealed to the NLC to reconsider the strike, assuring that the government is committed to addressing their concerns.
