Nigeria’s Super Falcons have lost to the United States in the 2015 Group D tournament of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The group had been classified as the group of death; meaning the toughest of all the groups.
The US and Nigeria put up a strong defense, with no team scoring at the 45 minute mark. Abby Wambach scored a goal just seconds before halftime point earning the United States 1-0 lead over Nigeria.
Asisat Oshoala nearly propelled the Falcons to tie with the United States, but Julie Johnson frustrated her effort.
The Falcons had trouble regaining momentum when Sarah Nodim received her second yellow card. The US lead turned into a victory and crowned the America Group D winners.
The Falcons ended the World Cup scoring just one point from three matches in the Group D category. (SR).
