Anambra State sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps’ (FRSC) Commander, Mr Sunday Ajayi has passed away.
Ajayi was said to have died in an auto accident on Saturday morning at Agbor area in Delta State, Nigeria.
Reports have it that the sector Commander was on his way coming from Kwara state, where he earlier on attended a relation’s wedding ceremony.
His driver, said to be a senior marshal, Raji survived the accident and is currently receiving medical treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
The FRSC flag at the command’s headquarters in Awka was seen lowered possibly as a symbol of respect for his untimely death.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Ufiem Egim confirmed the report to reporters, but added that the command is yet to come up with a formal report detailing the cause of his death.
The late Ajayi was recently quoted as saying that speed was responsible for more than 50 per cent crashes on Nigeria roads.
His words, “This is more noticeable during ‘Ember Months’ when there are higher commuter movements across the nation (before, during and after the end of year festivities).”
