Nigeria’s Second Republic executive president, Alhaji Shehu Shagari has been buried. The former president’s body was committed to mother earth some minutes past 3.00pm in his town in Sokoto State on Saturday.
Afterwards, special prayers were offered for the soul of the late President.
President Muhammadu Buhari, was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha. Notable politicians, elderstatesmen, friends and well wishers of the departed also attended the burial.
Shagari died at the National Hospital Abuja on Friday after a brief illness.
The late ex-President’s grandson, Nuradeen Mahe disclosed that the late President was moved to the National Hospital, Abuja on December 25, when “his health worsened, but he later died.”
The former president ruled Nigeria from October 1979 to December 1983.
Shagari, who won his second term election was overthrown by a coup d’etat that brought in Muhammadu Buhari as Military Head of State.
