LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) – A Nigerian living in Longview, TX, has been charged in his mother’s death, according to Longview police.  Her death occurred on July 28, 2015.

Daniel Kadima, 31, of Longview, was charged with murder Friday. Kadima’s bond is set at $1 million. He was originally arrested Tuesday in Longview for walking on the wrong side of the road. He also has a charge of writ of attachment. His total bond is set at $100,005,500

His mother, Hauwa Esther Kadima, 61, was found dead that same day at a Longview apartment complex. Gregg County Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Tim Bryan said Hauwa died of blunt force trauma to the head after she received lacerations to the brain.

In affidavit for a violation of court protection filed by Kadima’s ex-wife, she said she fears for her safety.

“Now police have notified me that Daniel’s mother was found murdered in her apartment this morning. They say he is the person they believe beat his mother to death. I am in shock over this and believe that my safety and life are in danger,” the documents read.

His ex-wife also filed for termination of Kadima’s parental rights to the couple’s child.

Hauwa Kadima was found in the 700 block of Gilmer Road. Officers were called to the complex about 9:20 a.m. for a welfare check. The apartment where her body was found is the same as that listed as a home address on Daniel’s driver’s license, according to state records.

Friends described as a devout Christian, and well-educated with degrees from Wheaton College. They say she had a vision for her native Nigeria.

“She had a passion for wanting to start a school back in her hometown. She didn’t go back to fulfill her dream,” Rev. Mary Collier says.

Hauwa was survived by other children, including Chukwudi Nwachukwu, Chidin Jummai Nwachukwu, Chukwuma Nwachukwu and a granddaughter. (Africansuntimes, KLTV)
