Nigerian government approves 6 new private universities in Nigeria

The universities are the Admiralty University at Ibusa in Delta state, Spiritan University at Nneochi in Abia State; Precious Cornerstone University in Ibadan, Oyo State; Pamo University of Medical Sciences at Port Harcourt in Rivers State.

Others are Atiba University in Oyo State and Eko University of Medical and Health Sciences in Lagos.

The minister of education, Malam Adamu Adamu, who announced the approval shortly after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said that there are some applications seeking for more of such universities, “and I believe we will still bring more for Council approvals.”

Adamu Adamu said that the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) would take the issue of accreditation very seriously and that if any university fails to meet the standard, “we are going to de-register their courses and enough courses are de-registered. It will lead to the closure of the University.
