
Following the recent Supreme Court judgement that set aside the lower courts judgments which recognised Abure as chairman, Labour Party (LP), on Wednesday approved the transition committee led by Nenadi Usman to commence the process of rebuilding the party from the scratch.
The decision was taken at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party, attended by ex-governor Peter Obi, governor Alex Otti, Datti Baba-Ahmed, Nenadi Usman, and the NLC President Joe Ajaero, who was represented by Ibrahim Umar; members of the National and states assembly and other stakeholders of the party.
Moving a motion during the meeting, Victor Umeh, the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, had called on the gathering comprising the members of NEC, led by Alex Otti and Peter Obi, stakeholders team, to approve that the transition committee be mandated to start the process of rebuilding the party from the Ward, Local government, State, Zonal to the National level.
Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emanuel Emeruwa, seconded the motion which was unanimously approved through voice vote by all without any counter motion.
At the end of the NEC meeting LP stakeholders moved from the venue of the meeting to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to submit a copy of their resolution, as well as the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court judgement to the body.
The party stakeholders said they were on rescue mission to save the party that took the nation’s political stage by storm in 2023.
