Music legend, Sir Victor Uwaifo, dies

Victor Uwaifo WhoisReports just came in that the music legend, Sir Victor Uwaifo, M.O.N, has passed away.

Sir Victor Efosa Uwaifo born in Benin City , Edo State, Nigeria on the 1st of March 1941 died at the age of 80, after a brief illness.

He was popularly known by his stage name ‘Guitar Boy’ which he echoed so much in his hit song ‘if you see mammy-water o’

Uwaifo was recognized among his peers as the most educated performing music legend, he was also a writer, sculptor, a musical instrument inventor, a University lecturer in the Department of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Benin, Benin City.

A close source to the family confirmed this to The Nation on Saturday.

He played for former Nigerian president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan at his election victory get-together in Abuja in 2011.

Uwaifo celebrated his 80th birthday in March.

His peers like Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, King Sunny Ade and his music lovers will miss him.
