When the going was good. In the front row of this photo were, from left: Chief MKO Abiola, General Sani Abacha and Sir Michael Otedola. At their rear was Major General Abdulkareem Adisa also in military uniform like General Sani Abacha.
This looked like when Sir Michael Otedola was the governor of Lagos State around 1992 and 1993 under the platform of National Republican Convention (NRC)
There were only two political parties in Nigeria at that time – the National Republican Convention (NRC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) when General Ibrahim Babangida was the Nigerian Head of State and General Sani Abacha was the Chief of Defence Staff.
The two-party system democratic experiment was funded and supervised by Nigerian government including primary elections. That type of political system would have been good for Nigeria if it was done with all sincerity. Babangida piloted it into confusion and crisis.
Unfortunately, three of the four personalities here became enemies of themselves when Abacha railroaded himself into office. He incarcerated Abiola and implicated Adisa in a military coup. ……..
All the four of them have died, although one of them, Sir Otedola, as octogenarian. May their soul rest in peace.
