Dear Senator and member HOR
I, am a citizen of Nigeria, native of Igogo, Moba LG, Ekiti State, therefore, a stakeholder in the Nigerian Project, hereby state that I know, neither you nor your contact addresses, as my parliamentarians-people who represent me in the parliament. This makes it impossible, for me,to participate in governance, as dictated by democracy.
This scenario is unfortunate as it:
(i) distances the people from government,
(ii) makes dialogue, necessary for mutual understanding and peace, impossible,
(iii) stifles progress, through governance without information, in the form of feedback
(iv) doesn’t make governance open
The only thing that reminds me of governance is the incessant sound of siren, that chases us off the roads, so that elected officials and their families can move on the roads, freely, undisturbed.
And, come to think of this, that we all blame the woes of our country on the executives misrepresents the reality of parliamentary governance. The parliament is, ordinarily, largely involved, on our behalf in governance- this makes you, largely, culpable, in fact, more than the executive, in all of our problems-the non-availability of, at least the basics of life: water, food, shelter, education, security of life and property to all our citizens. It’s also, unfair that we blame the executive, alone for the excruciatioing corruption, in the land, because the executive cannot spend a kobo, without your approval. After the laws of God, the acts of parliament is next, in the affairs of men, under a democracy.Your mere aloofness from us, your constituents, constitutes a constitutional aberration, given that ours is a parliamentary democracy.
The recent election postponement, the attendant controversies could have been nipped in the bud through pro-people debates, instead of having this elongation of tension. Please note the danger in not putting in place, a caveat-suppose the fight in North East continues, up to March 28, even as the election got postponed-this is being proactive. God, alone, no one else, knows tomorrow.
Am, now suggesting that, in the event election cannot hold, on March 28th, because of insurgency, a parliamentary declaration of a state of emergency that brings the theaters of war, under a military rule, be made, prior to March 28th. Further, that, under no condition, at all, will this election have to be postponed.
In making this patriotic suggestions, I note that government will become illegal, come May 29th, 2015, unless elected through a general election, prior to this day, as stipulated by our laws. Our country might, thereby become a state of anarchy. This we need to avoid.
Let me, finally, congratulate the FG, our gallant men of the Armed Forces and all Nigerians, for the giant strides being noticed in the war against insurgency
Writing to you, through this medium, is a follow-up to my frustrations in getting to you. Though membership of there prestigious Ekiti fora, is not mandatory for anyone, I believe that, given the membership-coverage of these fora, if not you, directly, your friends/relations/well wishers are likely to be members and may get my message across.
Your Sincerely
Citizen William Aborishade
