According to her brother, the kidnapped Vanguard Newspaper Columnist, Donu Kogbara, has regained her freedom after 11 days in the custody of her abductors.
“Pleased that my sister, #DonuKogbara has been released by her kidnappers in #Nigeria. She is back home. Thank You! for all support,” her brother, Dumle Kogbara, tweeted in the wee hours of this morning from his Twitter handle, @Dumlekogbara.
Reports say that the Rivers State Police Command later confirmed the release of Ms Kogbara, who was taken away from her residence in Port Harcourt, capital of her home state, Rivers, on Sunday, August 30.
Her abductors had demanded what a source disclosed as a ridiculous ransom for her release. It is not yet clear if any was paid but Ms Kogbara’s kidnap attracted widespread condemnation, especially from media practitioners, who appealed for her unconditional release.
