JUST IN: Ekiti Assembly impeaches its Speaker, Deputy

Politics

Coming in are reports that the Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon Kola Oluwawole and his Deputy, Mr Sina Animasaun have been impeached.

The impeachment was said to have been carried out Thursday afternoon by 14 members of the House.

According to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Stephen Gbadamosi, those who carried out the ‘illegality’ were provided police cover and they prevented other members and even staff of the House from having access to the complex, adding that some members were also suspended.

The reason for this action is not immediately known. Is it for absolute loyalty for the outgoing governor Ayo Fayose after he is out of office or it is in preparation for cooperation with the in-coming governor Kayode Fayemi? Whatever is behind the exercise would be unfolded in due course.

We don’t know yet who among the 14 members would be chosen to replace the impeached Speaker and his Deputy.

The ex-Speaker, however, described his sudden impeachment as the lowest level of lawlessness and illegality.
