The embattled but elusive leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau has appeared in a new video dismissing claims that the insurgency has been crushed and chased out of its stronghold in Sambisa forest.
Guardian reports the militant leader saying in a 25-minute video, “We are safe. We have not been flushed out of anywhere. And tactics and strategies cannot reveal our location except if Allah wills by his decree.”
If true, it would definitely be a blow on the reputation of the Nigerian government and the Nigerian Army who have been commended both locally and internationally for their reported success over the sect.
The Nigerian Army had previously claimed to have recovered Shekau’s Quran and flag in Camp Zero, the Boko Haram’s Headquarters in Sambisa forest.
Shekau remains elusive as reports of his death have surfaced on several occasions only to be dismissed by him in audio and video messages thereafter.
