If Buhari is serious about war on corruption, He should do away with people of questionable character – Nkem-Abonta

Hon. Uzoma Nkem-Abonta, the lawmaker representing Ukwa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has cautioned President Muhammadu Buhari against surrounding himself with people of ‘questionable character’ if he is serious about fighting corruption.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja yesterday, Nkem-Abonta said his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was not wrong in cautioning the president against a selective fight against corruption.

However, he noted that time would tell whether the anti-corruption fight of the current administration can be considered selective.

“As a lawmaker and a Nigerian, I think that Buhari has been slow, but he said he is steady. But I believe that time will tell if the anti-corruption stance of the president is being targeted at some perceived enemies. All that the PDP said was to caution against targeting people. I think there is nothing wrong with that,” he said.

The lawmaker also appealed for a review of the death sentence passed on some soldiers by a military court for defaulting in the prosecution of the war against Boko Haram in the North-east.

“Under the circumstances those men fought, anybody would rebel. We were also told that there were infiltrators. We are yet to get the full story of what transpired in the military tribunal, it should be made available so that we can know the statements of the court marshaled soldiers, and the defence available to them,” he said.
