Report coming in says, the popular Ibadan-based broadcaster, Mr. Oriyomi Hamzat has been released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), where he was detained for about fifteen days.
According to Daily Post, Mr. Hamzat, who owns Agidigbo radio station in Ibadan, was arrested and detained at the DSS office in Ibadan on August 1.
He was said to have been later transferred to Abuja for further interrogation.
While narrating how Mr. Hamzat was whisked away, the General Manager of Agidigbo radio station, Mr. Ismail Idowu said the DSS officers visited the radio station on July 31, demanding to see Hamzat.
The manager, along with three others who are interns at the broadcast office, were arrested, while broadcast equipment at the office were taken by the officers afterwards.
Idowu explained that the security operatives did not disclose why he was arrested to anyone.
“We’ve been running our programmes and exposing the atrocities being committed by the state government until the time he was arrested,” he said.
Hamzat’s wife, Motunrayo Hamzat, who confirmed the release of her husband, noted that her husband had gone into hiding after his release.
She said, “He has been released since Thursday. But currently, he is not around.”
