Buhari2Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has ordered a probe into the activities of revenue agencies such as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Inland revenue Services (FIRS).

The Nigerian leader disclosed this during his address to mark the country’s 55 years of independence.

Buhari in his 10 minutes televised address delivered from 7 O’clock this morning highlighted efforts being made by his four months old administration to sanitise the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) so as to make it more functional.

“In addition, I have ordered investigation of other revenue services such as the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Inland revenue Services,” he said.

Buhari also highlighted efforts by his administration to end the Boko Haram insurgency and improve power generation and supply, noting that the supply of fuel and kerosene has already stabilised in many parts of the country.

The President recognizes the anxiety over the delay in announcing his cabinet but said “there is no cause for anxiety.” He blamed the delay on late submission of handover notes by the outgone Goodluck Jonathan administration and the need to restructure the ministries. “Subsequent lists will be submitted in due course,” said Buhari, who turned in the first set of 21 ministerial nominees to Senate President Bukola Saraki late yesterday.

On Nigeria’s current status, the President said: “We have the attributes of a great country but we are not there yet.”

He repeated the promise of change by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) but noted: “Change does not just happen. You and I have to realise that we all have a role to play for change to happen.” He, therefore, called on all Nigerians to make a change for the better in whatever field of endeavour in which they are engaged.
