Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Funminiyi Afuye, has passed away. He died at the age of 66.
His death was confirmed on Wednesday by a press statement from the governor’s office, which was signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Yinka Oyebode.
Afuye, who represents Ikere constituency 1, died on Wednesday October 19, around 6 pm. He was said to have been rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) Ado-Ekiti in the early hours of today after developing complications over an undisclosed ailment. Afuye, a lawyer, was said to have died after attempts by medical doctors to save his life failed.
Afuye appeared at the inauguration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, on Sunday and was full of life when he accompanied the new governor to inspect some ongoing road projects in the state capital on Tuesday afternoon.
Afuye, who was in the assembly between 2007 and 2010, was spending his second term in the assembly and his tenure was billed to expire on June 6, 2023.
He served as Commissioner for Information during the first term of former Governor Kayode Fayemi between 2010 and 2014.
