Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has denied signing any budgets into law without sighting the details, as has been claimed in some quarters.
The former President made the denial on Thursday after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
It would be recalled that some members of the House of Representatives had claimed Obasanjo signed budgets into law without sighting the details after President Buhari insisted on receiving the details of the 2016 Budget before signing the bill into law.
Obasanjo, who was fielding questions from State House correspondents after the meeting with President Buhari, dismissed the claim.
He said: “Eh en? I signed budget without details? Anybody who told you that, go and ask him again.”
On the 2016 Budget, he said: “Before I will be able to tell you something about the budget, I have to read it and know what it contains and know what to talk about.”
Commenting on the delay in passing the budget, Obasanjo said the constitution allows the executive to continue with the budget provided it does not go beyond the previous year’s budget up to the middle of the year.
The President, in his characteristic way of evading questions, however declined to speak on the anti-corruption war, especially the trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
Obasanjo retorted, “Eh en? What is wrong with him?”, when asked to speak on Saraki.
He also disclosed that the purpose of his visit to the Villa was because of the need to share his experiences with the President.
He said: “You know that not too long ago, I was out there. I have come to share some of my experiences with him.”
