Following tomorrow’s Sit-at-Home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a team of foreign observers arrived on Sunday and visited the IPOB Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
It was gathered that officials from Canada, Italy, Germany and Israel met with Kanu at his father’s Afaraukwu Ibeku palace.
Sources said their discussions centred on Tuesday’s Sit-at-Home order by IPOB and its activities.
Meanwhile, security began to build up in Umuahia Sunday afternoon as security operatives were seen mounting aerial and land surveillance.
A Police helicopter with registration Number 5N-GEJ was seen hovering very low in the sky across the state capital while security operatives carried out joint patrols of the major roads in the Abia State capital in a long convoy of patrol vans. A similar exercise continued today. But Abia State Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade, in a statement in Umuahia, urged residents of the state to go about their lawful businesses without entertaining any fear of molestation.
“The aerial and land surveillance being experienced is part of the Command’s security arrangements structured to upgrade her security network.
“The joint patrol involving all the security agencies (show of strength) covers the nooks and crannies of the state. All these are aimed at providing adequate security of lives and property for all and sundry,” Oyebade added.
IPOB had called on the people of the South East geo-political zone and residents of other cities to Sit-at-Home tomorrow (May 30, 2017) a way to honour those who lost their lives in the struggle for Biafra, from 1967 till date. They insisted that businesses and offices must remain closed.
