Two dead as fire guts late Akala

Two persons have been confirmed dead following a fire incident in one of the buildings in the Opadoyin compound of former governor of Oyo state, late Adebayo Alao-Akala, on Monday morning.

The fire incident occurred around 7:50am and it is suspected that it was caused by a power surge, according to The Nation newspaper.

One of the victims died instantly while the other gave up the ghost at Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, where she was rushed to for medical attention.

Another source, who was privy to the incident said he woke up at about 8 am when he noticed smoke from a part of the building but couldn’t fathom the cause.

Political associates, friends, and family members of the late ex-governor are said to have been visiting the residence in commiseration with the family.
