I totally agree with you Dr. Onukwuli…we are talking about a university student, a grown up woman/man or person. Moreover, he should be charged for assault, emotional distress, and public humiliation.
This indeed part of the bigger problem that we face in Nigeria…people not knowing their limitations, even when it’s against the law.

There is no reason whatsoever that will justify the flogging of a 300-level university student. This lecturer should be dismissed immediately pending Board of Trustees full investigation.
If he has not been arrested and charged with assault, he must be so subjected right away. There is no excuse on earth that can justify this lecturer’s assault on this young woman. He is lucky that Nigerians are somewhat indolent over their rights, had he done this in the US, other students would have put him six feet under.
Nigeria is some kind of a country. Not too long ago, an FRSC boorish boss had the temerity and positivism to shave off his female officers’ hairs. In the pictures, I saw the agony in those women’s faces as he perpetrated that cruelty, but was shocked that not one woman defied him. Luckily, the government did the right thing by firing or suspending from office. He should have been charged with assault too, for that was what his action constituted. As professor Onukwuli suggested, this lecturer should be fired right away or forbidden around students pending his prosecution for assault.
