Female pastor remanded in prison for N23m scam

A female Nigerian pastor identified as Mercy Daniel Ogbonaya has been remanded in Port Harcourt Correctional Centre’s custody after she was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Justice I. M. Sani for alleged N23m scam.

The suspect who was arraigned on a charge of obtaining money by false pretence contrary to Section 1 (1) (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act, was remanded in prison on Thursday January 23.

In a statement, after her arraignment, EFCC wrote:

“Justice I. M. Sani of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has remanded Mercy Daniel Ogbonaya, a pastor, in Port Harcourt Correctional Centre’s custody for obtaining money by false pretence contrary to Section 1 (1) (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.

The defendant was arraigned by the Port Harcourt Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), today Thursday January 23, 2020 on one count charge.”
