Fayemi meets Alaafin over 16 Ekiti monarchs

The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has met with the Alaafin of Oyo, Ikubabayeye, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III after the latter wrote a strong letter to him concerning his management of a crisis between 16 traditional rulers and the others in the State.

Governor Fayemi made headlines after he issued a letter of query with 72 hours ultimatum of reply to 16 Ekiti monarchs over alleged insubordination.

The timing of Fayemi’s query to the obas came shortly after the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II was dethroned by the Kano state governor, Umar Ganduje claiming insubordination.

The Alaafin in his open letter to Fayemi cautioned him to ‘tread softly’. He warned that the monarchs be treated with respect. The letter read; “Your Excellency’s neglect of the hierarchical order by appointing a subordinate Oba as the Chairman of the Council of Obas and Chiefs in the State over and above the recognized order. It was therefore with total displeasure and indeed total discomfort that we learnt of.”

“In a free society like ours, nobody should expect those injured by that assault to keep quiet. As civilized people, rather than confronting or engaging the government they chose the court option.”

“Since the case is still in court, we will not want to comment further on it as a law-abiding citizen. I, however, expected that your Excellency waits till the end of the court process before acting on the matter,”.

In what appears to be a response to the oba’s letter, Governor Fayemi met with the Alaafin on Sunday at his palace in Oyo, quickly proceeded to prostrate before him.

The duo exchanged banter and reportedly had a good conversation.
