The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), eventually opened his defence in the N400 million money laundering charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday, after his latest application to stall trial was thrown out by the judge.
Metuh who is being prosecuted alongside his company, Destra Investments Limited for the alleged N400million fraud, had earlier on Friday April 8, 2016, met a brick wall in his attempt to stall his trial.
Metuh brought a new counsel Tochukwu Onwugbufor, to represent his company, Destra Investment Limited. The counsel, had through an application sought for an adjournment to enable him formalizes his appearance as he needed to be properly briefed by the former counsel, Emeka Etiaba.
Justice Abang however dismissed the application saying it was “not deserving.” Consequently, Metuh commenced his defence through his witness, Ike Abonyi, journalist and public relations consultant who told the court how former president, Goodluck Jonathan demanded for a corporate bank account from Metuh which some amount was paid into. The truth and nothing but the truth will eventually come out to light. The level of looting of public funds which has taken place in Nigeria for several years now is mind buggling and unbelievable. Under President Buhari, there is hope that the funds will be recovered and used in rebuilding various sectors of Nigeria economy and infrastructure.
