The immediate past National Women’s Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mrs. Sharon Olive Ikeazor, has declared her interest to contest in the re-run election of the Anambra Central District.
Her ambition presents a big challenge to Hon. Uche Ekwunife, who last week defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC to re-contest in the position following the stance of the PDP to secure the release of the detained National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, before conducting fresh primaries. The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu had on December 7, 2015 nullified the election of the zone which was earlier won by Ekwunife and ordered a fresh ballot within 90 days.
Submitting her intent form Tuesday to APC state executives at the party’s secretariat in Awka, Ikeazor pointed out that her experience in partisan politics would be brought to the fore in the senate race in the district.
She vowed to represent the interest of the party with pride and great honour, adding that if elected, she would strive to make laws and policies that would be in line with the beliefs and principles of President Muhammadu Buhari in his fight against corruption.
Responding, the state Chairman of the party, Mr. Emeka Ibe expressed happiness that Ikeazor had declared interest to join the race, saying that all the aspirants would be given a level playing ground in line with the party’s principles.
He maintained that the interest of the party is to produce a senator that will represent APC at the National Assembly adding that the party will ensure that due process is followed in electing whoever that would fly the party’s flag.
Ibe told aspirant Ikeazor: “If you clinch the party’s ticket, ensure that you help Mr. President to deliver this country from the bondage of corruption as we know that this country was in a mess before now.
