This was a 2014 story when Adokiye Kyrian, 23 at the time, spoke with Vanguard’s Showtime and unveiled her bold statements, one of which depicts her as a virgin. That was when she spoke of offering herself to Boko Haram in exchange of Chibok girls’ release.
Although her gesture may have a measure of noble intent, Kyrian didn’t even balk at the possibility the militants could physically harm her, because, in her words, she is “older and more experienced.” than the Chibok girls.
“They are between 12 and 15 year old girls for Christ sake,” Kyrian said. “It is just unfair. They are too young. I wish I could offer myself in exchange.”
“Even if 10 to 12 men have to take me every night, I don’t care. Just release these girls and let them go back to their parents,” she added.
Observers in social media were angered by Kyrian’s statement and called her actions both selfish and attention-seeking.
Kyrian served as the Imo State Peace Ambassador.
