Facts have emerged on the visit by senators led by Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, to the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Friday.
Sources in the Senate dismissed reports that the visit was strictly by members of the Peoples Democratic Party caucus in the Senate.
It was gathered that the lawmakers, who are members of the Senate Committee on Constitution Review, paid the “solidarity” visit after holding their meeting in Lagos State.
A member of the APC Caucus in the Senate told Punch correspondent on Saturday that the visit by the senators to Tinubu was not political at all.
The lawmaker stated: “The committee was in Lagos as part of its activities on the current review of the Nigerian Constitution. It has 36 members across political parties and with each state represented. Although there are two instances where myself and a senator from Lagos facilitated a meeting between Tinubu and Ekweremadu, this particular meeting is in recognition of Asiwaju as an elder statesman.”
“They are in Lagos and they felt that either officially or unofficially, Asiwaju is synonymous with Lagos. It is like visiting the landlord. (The Punch)
